Assystem has announced that Simon Barber will be the company’s new UK Managing Director, succeeding Peter Higton, who is stepping down after 13 years at the helm.

Simon joined Assystem in September after nine years leading Arup’s nuclear business. At Assystem his aim will be capitalising on current opportunities in the nuclear industry and growing the business, that spans eight offices in the UK, including London, Blackburn, Sunderland and Bristol.

A key focus for Assystem is supporting the new build projects of Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C, where Assystem brings considerable experience in the EPR technology, as well as the emerging SMR programme, where Assystem is leading the Balance of Plant, Cooling Water and Turbine islands.

Simon said: “I am looking forward to the great opportunities ahead for the company and building on the successes that Peter Higton and his teams have created.

“It is an exciting time for the energy sector and nuclear has a key role to play in the energy transition.  Assystem has 3,000 nuclear experts, with knowledge of multiple technologies ready to support the development of the UK’s new nuclear projects.”

“We are also focused on promoting the excellent careers on offer in nuclear to the next generation and take the lead on supporting the industry to reach 40% of women in nuclear by 2030, through our #INCREDIBLEWOMEN programme.”

Christian Jeanneau, Senior Vice President of Nuclear at Assystem, said: “Securing Simon into this role is a success for Assystem as his technical background, coupled with his significant commercial experience across the nuclear and energy sector, will bring strong leadership to the development of our nuclear business in the UK.”
