Assystem is linking with Teesside University as part of a campaign to strengthen skills and research to support the hydrogen and renewable energy projects vital to the UKs Energy Security Strategy.

Offshore wind and hydrogen production linked to the North Sea distribution network will make the North-East region a hub for the production of low-carbon power in the UK.

Assystem is focused on the projects that will create decarbonised electricity and accelerate the energy transition and it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Teesside University to collaborate on new opportunities developing low-carbon energy infrastructure in the North-East and beyond.

The two parties have pledged to work together in a range of areas including collaborative research, knowledge exchange and student placements. Assystem will be bringing over 50 years of experience in energy transition projects to the partnership, with a view to proposing innovative solutions that can resolve challenges in hydrogen production and energy efficiency.

This new collaboration reflects Assystem’s commitment to equip the next generation of engineering talent in the UK, driving a vital skills pipeline to support the country’s transition to low-carbon energy sources on the road to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions and long-term energy security.

Gary Reed, Assystem’s UK Energy Transition Business Manager said: “Significant investment in renewables and hydrogen will make the North-East a key energy transition hub for the UK. Assystem is well positioned to support its development from our Sunderland office where we are bringing our global experience in delivering complex low-carbon energy projects and expertise in digital engineering.
