Context and challenges
The client is a specialist in sewage treatment. It operates a sewage treatment plant designed to receive the effluents from cities in the Seine basin and its tributaries, located to the South and South West of Paris.
The plant, which was commissioned in 1987, was built in several stages, and the architecture of the instrumentation and control (I&C) system had to be rescaled at each stage to incorporate new automated features for the process upgrades. The current I&C system is made up of mixed hardware and must manage approximately 32,000 Inputs/Outputs and 130,000 different control points.
In its role as project manager, SIAAP (Paris regional waste water treatment authority) wished to overhaul the entire instrumentation and control system. The client also needed to review and update the technical documentation for the automated functions on site.
The client called on Assystem for the reverse engineering of the plant's instrumentation and control system.
Project Scope
- Audit existing documentation concerning facility operations
- Audit operational procedures to determine deficiencies in the facility controls
- Analyse and revise technical documentation for instrumentation and control
- Analyse automated functions for tertiary treatment, sludge centrifuge and dehydration facilities
- Propose new operating methods for integration in the future instrumentation and control system
Results
- Complete revision of technical documentation describing current operations and including the latests upgrades to the facilities
- The documentation, which perfectly reflects the actual hardware installed at the plant, will now make it possible to issue calls for tenders to modernise and standardise the plant's control system
