Job Description
Plant Layout Engineer
Bristol / WFH (Hybrid)
Be part of one of the most exciting and challenging projects in the UK, as we continue the rebirth of nuclear in the UK. Assystem, the second largest nuclear engineering company in the World, are expanding rapidly in the UK, and with the ever-growing need for energy transition, you can be a part of the continuous effort towards decarbonisation.
The project at Hinkley Point C (HPC) in Somerset is the first of its kind in the UK in over 20 years and one of the biggest construction projects globally.
If you have experience in the nuclear sector, then that’s great, but by no means is it essential. We are looking for people who are ambitious and looking to be part of something great. The Plant Layout Engineer assists the building leader in the technical coordination, production and monitoring of layout engineering studies for one or more buildings by proposing technical solutions.
Main Activities of the Plant Layout Engineer:
- General layout engineering Assesses layout changes concerning the 3D model and technical documents, following feedback communicated to SDLT from installation contractors on site (for example, inconsistencies resulting from installation tolerances).
- Carries out layout engineering or makes proposals to incorporate modifications.
- Modifies the layout of various mechanical, HVAC and electrical equipment.
- Modifies the pipes, HVAC ducts and electrical cable trays in the 3D model.
- Liaises/coordinates with EDF engineering offices in the UK and France, for specialist support/studies/feedback.
- Writes the related technical documents (progress reports, equipment location books, change impact analysis, procedures, etc.).
- Receives updated/adapted/modified input data for the layout engineering of the building (necessary modifications, Process & Instrumentation Diagrams, equipment data, cable list, electrical load list, etc.), analyses them and verifies their technical consistency.
- Issues the layout drawings to the various teams and coordinates their layout activities by ensuring compliance with the layout rules.
Progress monitoring and change management
- Manages and monitors the modifications requested by the various engineering teams, contractors and the client.
- Anticipates and raises alerts on open technical points.
- Regularly carries out layout engineering reviews (with all the engineering teams involved).
- Prepares a regular status report on the model in the light of the latest input data.
My profile
The Skills:
- Qualified to Degree Level and experience in one or more areas of engineering: piping engineering, mechanical, HVAC, safety
- Knowledge and experience of using PDMS
- Good knowledge of other 2D and 3D design software (AutoCAD, Navisworks)
- Good knowledge and understanding of general layout rules for an industrial project.
- Knowledge of the general operation of a nuclear power station and the associated safety aspects (in particular, aspects relating to flooding, fire, radiological protection, high energy line ruptures, etc.).
