Mechanical Engineer

The nuclear industry is expected to need possibly 100,000 new employees over the next decade. Nuclear in the UK, is seeing a recent renaissance with the UK government pledging its support for both large and small-scale nuclear energy projects.
Assystem is the second largest Nuclear Engineering organisation and provides technical engineering support across the world, supporting complex Nuclear New Build, Decommissioning and Defence programmes.
We are currently looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our expanding team in either our West Lakes or Warrington offices.
This role will involve developing mechanical design solutions in response to problem definitions from the OU system engineering community dealing with plant failures and potential improvements.
The problems that are likely to occur will be varied for plant, pipework and equipment on several plants dealing with High Active, Medium Active and Low Active waste streams that process, compact, encapsulate, vitrify or package waste.
The equipment or machinery could be used within a shielded cell being bespoke and designed for remote handling or remote operation in hazardous areas, or out cell where the equipment is more likely to be of a conventional nature for mechanical handling material in man accessible areas. The pipework could be located within buildings or externally providing services to and from buildings.

Experience
- Degree in relevant engineering discipline with design delivery experience
- A sound engineering background with knowledge of general mechanical design aspects such as material selection, tolerancing, surface finishes, and welding
- Previous experience involving the design of mechanical / electrical machinery
- Competent and proven design engineer, capable of producing designs, schemes, drawings, and supporting calculations who is familiar with the roles and application of the CDM regulations.
- Proficient in use of AutoCAD, and Inventor
Due to the nature of work to be undertaken applicants will be required to meet certain residency criteria in order to attain a minimum level of UK security clearance if not already security cleared to a minimum SC level.
