Job Description

We are looking to recruit a Head of HSEQ to guarantee we deliver the needs and expectations of our stakeholders for all our operations, services and products.

The Head of HSEQ will be responsible for defining, leading and implementing the Health & Safety, Environmental, Sustainability, Quality and Nuclear Safety Assurance continuous improvement strategy for Assystem UK.

The position is based in either the Blackburn or Sunderland office with travel to Assystem offices and customer sites.

Reporting to the UK Managing Director your responsibilities are:

  • Setting the strategic direction for HSEQ for Assystem UK and CRA in alignment with the Group Delivery Excellence program,
  • Leading the continual development, implementation, maintenance and compliance of the Integrated Management System aligned to Group and Assystem UK business objectives and needs,
  • Defining and deploying a structured approach to Continuous Improvement, that focuses on a culture of customer first, agility and effectiveness,
  • Defining and deploying a structured approach to EHS,
  • Contributing to the overall business strategy to achieve Delivering Excellence,
  • Certification and maintenance of IMS to ISO 9001/14001/45001/1965-Part 2 and further certifications (ISO 44001, ISO 19443, ISO 27001 etc) as required by the business,
  • Ensuring effective management of regulatory and legislative changes impacting the business,
  • Monitoring and reporting overall and relevant performance against business objectives, key performance indicators and associated governance structures,
  • Accountability for risk management around HSEQ related issues, and the  establishment/maintenance of a preventative approach,
  • Ensuring the organisations policies, processes and plans are effective in meeting stakeholder expectations, removing variation, minimising operational risk and maximising efficiency,
  • Supporting the senior management team in ensuring that the operations approach and system of business management are continually assessed and improved.
  • Managing and processing the LFE from the business,
  • Leading the UK CSR program and linking to Group CSR reporting requirements,
  • As required integrating future acquisitions from a HSEQ perspective.

My profile

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • +10 years, working within Nuclear, Oil & Gas, PMC, EPC’s and/or an engineering company
  • MSc/BSc or equivalent in an Engineering or Occupational Health and Safety discipline
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
  • ISO 9001/ISO 14001/ISO 45001 Certified Lead/Internal auditor
  • + Tertiary qualifications in Health & Safety and / or Environment
  • Chartered or Graduate Member of IOSH (Grad/CMIOSH) or equivalent preferred
  • Good knowledge of all relevant standards, in particular: ISO9001:2015, ISO 14001:2005 and ISO 45001:2018
  • Experience in the design and implementation of integrated management systems

  • A strong team work ethic with the ability to build strategic working relationships
  • The capacity to lead projects with the ability to manage relationships, build consensus and resolve conflict  

Due to the nature of work to be undertaken applicants will be required to meet certain residency criteria in order to attain a minimum level of UK security clearance.
