Job Description

Job Title: Verification and Validation Engineer

Location: Derby

Employment Type: Contract

As a Verification & Validation Engineer You will work on an exciting project  verifying the Dreadnought Submarine control and instrumentation system.

The V&V team are responsible for verification of all aspects of the reactor control system ranging from line replaceable hardware units, through to sub-system and system level integration as well as integration with the wider Submarine platform. This includes hands on testing of the EC&I equipment utilizing a number of Hardware in the loop test rigs.

Key Responsibilities for Verification and Validation Engineer:

  • Generate V&V processes and tools for testing & analysis of test evidence.
  • Take ownership of verification of one or more EC&I products including; review of requirements and allocation of methods, development of test procedures & test scripts and conduct testing of EC&I Equipment and compile verification evidence and reports.
  • Operate and maintain test rigs and sensor simulators
  • Develop algorithm emulators.

 

     

    My profile

    Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience for Verification and Validation Engineer:

    Essential:

    • Degree qualified in one or more of the engineering disciplines of electronic, electrical, instrumentation, controls or software. Those with physics or other degrees will also be considered, if relevant experience can be demonstrated. 
    • Applicants without a degree who can nevertheless demonstrate suitable experience will also be considered.
    • Extensive Verification and Validation experience including Hardware in the Loop testing.
    • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel
    • A good technical understanding of high integrity electrical/electronic systems.
    • Good knowledge of the product design lifecycle including design optioneering, problem solving, definition, verification and validation, justification and safety and final acceptance.
    • Analytical and logical mind with numeracy and literacy skills.
    • Professional attitude and strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
    • Must hold a UK passport.

    Desirable:

    • An appreciation of systems engineering principles is desirable.
    • Knowledge of coding principles including experience of Phython, VBA and C
    • Familiarity with DOORS and DXL is desirable, but not essential.
    • Experienced in the creation of models using Matlab/ Simulink and writing test scripts.
    • Knowledge of Pressurised Water Reactors is desirable, but not essential.
    • Experience of working within the defence, nuclear or other high integrity industries is desirable, but not essential.

    **Security clearance**

    This role requires the successful candidate to hold a minimum of a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance.

    Due to the nature of work this role will be delivering and for the protection of certain assets, the successful candidate has to be a UK national or in MoD approved cases a Dual National from a non-ITAR country.
