Job Description

This is a newly created role that reports into the Country Business Finance Manager. It sits within the “Controlling” team and reflects the continuous growth of Assystem in the UK.

The Finance team is divided into two: Whilst the “Accounting” team produce management accounts, manage AP and AR, and deal with Statutory Accounting matters, the “Controlling” team provides financial support directly to the business. Controlling delivers budgets and forecasting, commentary on monthly results, and supports the pricing of new work.

Duties will include: 

This role will be focussed on the delivery of forecasts and budgets. There are two bottom-up forecasts, and two top-down forecasts annually covering the current calendar year. There is also a one-year, detailed, bottom-up budget set in Q4 for the following year, and a five-year, high-level business plan.

  • Produce budget/forecast templates in excel, ensuring that historical data is accurate and reconciled to source systems
  • Liaise with Operational teams across the business to ensure templates, deliverables and deadlines are understood and deal with any queries regarding budget/forecast completion
  • Consolidate 20+ excel forecast templates, perform data integrity checks, and ensure returns are complete and accurate
  • Produce variance analysis vs. previous forecasts to understand changes in revenue and profitability
  • Produce management information to aid Director level reviews of budgets and forecast
  • Attend monthly reviews to challenge quarterly projections, with the aim of understanding if the business is on track to deliver budget.
  • Produce information and analysis for Group relating to revenue and profit per customer and per sector
  • Propose sales order and cash targets for the coming year, reviewing and agreeing with relevant stakeholders. Monitor progress through the year to ensure these are achieved.
  • Commit to maximizing efficiency at all levels without compromising quality.

My profile

Qualifications:

  • ACCA/CIMA Qualified (or equivalent) or qualified by experience
  • Experience of financial and/or project controls required; ideally 5 years.
  • Experience of computerised accounting systems necessary; knowledge of IFS will be valuable but is not essential
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience in data manipulation
  • You must be eligible to work in UK.

  • Ability to communicate complex finance information clearly and concisely to a non-finance audience.
  • Continuous improvement mindset and an appetite to identify the root causes of issues or inefficiencies and embed change.
  • Good logic and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to work towards deadlines both independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage priorities

Job Location

The base office for this role is Blackburn, on a hybrid basis. Hybrid details: 2 days a week in the office (Tuesday and Wednesday), the remaining 3 can be worked from home.
