Job Description
Reporting to the PZPSP CS&A Lead Engineer, the CS&A Designer should have broad experience of civil & structural design and construction of both new and modification to existing structures.
The role requires experience working with BIM and federated models to combine inputs from multiple disciplines.
Support may be required to facilitate integration with the federated model.
PZPSP is in the Appraise and Select phase building on work previously undertaken by another team. Working under the guidance of Senior/Engineers the CS&A Designer will be:
- responsible for the development of the CS&A aspects of the model which will be the basis of the design development.
- capable of representing basic electrical components, including key routes for piping and cables within their model.
- able to communicate well at all levels, not just Technical.
- self-motivated, to deliver against the schedule, to agreed targets and be comfortable working in a team as well as on their own.
The project will be delivered by a multidisciplined team. The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment is essential.
The design is primarily for the support of the new Substation 78 and the service route between Substation 78 and other existing substations using new and existing service routes – buried, surface mounted – crossing car parks, roads and the site railway.
It will be necessary to attend meetings and to undertake site visits to Sellafield.
Experience of sustainability principles is desirable.
Key activities the candidate will be expected to undertake are as follows:
- Development of model (liaising with other disciplines, site construction, project engineers & systems engineers and site operations) to provide a clash free design
- Consideration of the permanent and temporary cases
- Site visits & surveys at Sellafield including the attendance at surveys undertaken by others
- Support production of engineering documents such as survey specifications, Outline Construction Method Statements etc.
- Continual ongoing assurance of the application of CDM and the recording of such

Essential Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years (preferably 5) experience in use of Revit or similar CS&A design packages
Essential Experience:
- Use of Navisworks to integrate disciplines and undertake clash detection,
- Demonstrate the ability to:
- Create drawings with relevant plans, sections and details including, but not limited to, General Arrangements and detailed drawings.
- Experience in steel and concrete model production required. Steel experience is a particular requirement, as a concept design of a steel service bridge is part of the scope of this project.
- Create their own families.
- Use of worksets and central models
- Conversion of 3-D models into 2-D drawings,
- Production of engineering drawings (General Arrangement and Detail),
- Capable of working closely and effectively with engineers to deliver compliant design deliverables.
- The candidate will need to work under the direction of the Lead Engineer and manage their own workload as agreed. Be experienced in multi-discipline projects i.e. working closely with electrical and architect’s models
- Able to actively seek input from engineers, specialists, facility and project team members to improve understanding and deliver fit for purpose solutions.
Be able to present information in forms specifically aimed at a variety of target audiences.
Desirable -
- HND/C in appropriate subject or relevant experience.
- Experience of any Sellafield, nuclear or highly regulated industry.
- Has worked on BIM/ Coordinated Design compliant projects and be familiar with BS1192.
- Production of model-based animations,
- Experience providing guidance to less experienced modellers to develop their capabilities.
Experience of designing for delivery/construction (temporary conditions) and associated project construction/execution.
**Security clearance**
Capable of achieving the Sellafield Baseline Personnel Security Standard as a minimum. Preference is for the candidate to have an existing P1/P4 pass.
