Job Description

As our reputation for proficient delivery of complex projects grows stronger, we are engaged in a number of Nuclear New Build and Fusion projects, and we are looking to recruit Mechanical Engineers with a broad set of skills and backgrounds to support thermal power plant development across Fusion and Small Modular Fission projects.

The Role:

Reporting to the FEED Engineering Manager you will be responsible for Delivering Front Engineering activities for Small Modular Reactors, Advanced Modular Reactors and Fusion projects. The Principal Engineer shall work closely with multidisciplined teams and will deliver scope through leadership of an engineering design team.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Ownership and responsibility for the delivery of power station systems.
  • Leading Optioneering Studies at the front end to determine preferred solution in accordance with client needs and objectives.
  • Lead a team in the development and review of Process Flow Diagrams, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, Layout Drawings, Component Sizing Calculations, Component and Equipment Datasheets and Specifications, and other concept or detailed design related documents
  • Lead the development of Design Description Documents, Requirement Specifications, among other design development activities
  • Integration of developed systems within the wider plant.
  • Act as technical responsible person for a technical scope.
  • Chair Design Reviews and Lead HAZID/HAZOP studies with multidisciplined teams
  • Ensure adherence to the company statutory H&S Policies and rules and compliance with the project and Quality Management System

 

My profile

Your Background: 

  • Strong previous experience, preferably in the nuclear sector or other highly regulated industries such as thermal power generation or oil and gas and process sectors. Experience in thermal power systems and equipment such as steam turbines, condensers, feedwater heaters, pumps, and piping systems or nuclear power plants would be beneficial.
  • You will understand optioneering and have experience in undertaking studies that evaluate credible option and have demonstrated previous experience making ALARP and BAT arguments for selected technical options.
  • You will have experience coaching and developing junior staff and will have led small teams in the past.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with internal and external stake holders.
  • Appreciation and application of ASME, European and UK codes and standards. Including an understanding of Product Safety Legislation and the technical requirements thereof.
  • Appreciation of requirements management and systems engineering is desirable.

Personal Specification/Attributes

  • Results oriented, ability to work independently and proactively as part of a team, good organisation skills, ability to deal with confidential and sensitive nuclear information in a professional manner and in-line with export control obligations.
  • Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma in an engineering discipline.
  • CEng in a relevant discipline or working towards Professional Registration.
  • British National with eligibility to obtain and maintain full UK security clearance (SC)

Security clearance:

Due to the nature of work to be undertaken applicants will be required to meet certain residency criteria in order to attain a minimum level of UK security clearance if not already security cleared to a minimum SC level.
