Mechanical Engineer – Warrington – Permanent / Contract (inside IR35

Assystem is a well-established leader in the nuclear decommissioning sector. As a key partner in the Design Services Alliance, we provide comprehensive waste management services to strategic nuclear clients in the UK, along with life extension and feasibility assessment services.

Your Missions 🚀

Support the Mechanical RE and Area Engineering Manager in delivering high-quality design outputs. Your responsibilities will include:

  • 📋 Information gathering
  • 🔍 Investigations/inspections and design
  • 📊 Optioneering from ‘long list’ to ‘short list’
  • 🎯 Identification of success criteria
  • 🔧 Down selection and development of solutions
  • 🖼️ Layout drawings and initial equipment design drawings
  • 📝 Production of supporting calculations
  • 🤝 Liaison with Stakeholders and Project Management

My profile

Qualifications/Experience Required 🎓

  • 🎓 Degree in a relevant engineering discipline with 2 years of design delivery experience OR a qualification such as BTEC, HNC, HND, with 5 years of design delivery experience.
  • ✔️ Ability to demonstrate equivalent SQEP against SL Designer role SR0754.
  • 📜 Familiarity and experience with SL Practices, standards, and engineering guides.
  • 🛠️ Experience in producing mechanical-based options/concept designs.
  • 🏗️ Knowledge and past experience using crane and other design specifications and guides (e.g., The Machinery Regulations, LOLER, and PUWER).
  • 🖌️ Capability to produce designs, schemes, drawings, and supporting calculations.
  • 💼 Proficiency in liaising with key stakeholders and other design disciplines.
  • 📝 Competent in report writing, clearly and concisely reporting findings.
  • ⏳ Comfortable working under time and cost constraints.
  • 📈 Self-management and ability to drive work scope completion.
  • 🗣️ Effective communication with team members and clients.
  • ⚠️ Ability to produce designers’ Risk Assessments and design analyses to ensure risk reduction.
