Job Description

As a Learning and Development Specialist, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive learning interventions that align with our organisational goals. You will collaborate with various departments to identify training needs, develop engaging content, and facilitate effective learning experiences for employees at all levels. The successful candidate will possess a passion for digital design, excellent communication skills, and a strong understanding of adult learning principles.

Key responsibilities & accountabilities  

Training Needs Analysis:

  • Working with our HoD community, Technical Governance and Business Resource Managers, identify skill gaps and training needs within the organisation.
  • Understand business objectives and align learning initiatives with organisational and Group level goals.

Design, Development and Delivery:

  • Design and deliver effective learning interventions both face to face and digitally (virtually and eLearning), taking responsibility for continuously reviewing programmes in place, including candidate experiences and ensuring that any recommendations or improvements where required are implemented.
  • Work collaboratively with subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and relevance of training content.
  • Foster an inclusive and participative learning atmosphere, encouraging employee engagement and knowledge retention.
  • Ensure that all early talent colleagues are supported, developed and retained to be successful within Assystem.
  • Develop and manage working relationships with external providers to manage the delivery of professional qualifications and training, ensuring that the design and delivery of any training programmes brings added value to AEIL and our attendees.

Learning Technology Management:

  • Alongside our Group eLearning team, ensure the LMS meets the needs of AEIL and implement continuous improvement.
  • Utilise learning management systems (LMS) and other technologies to deliver, track, and report on training programs.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies in learning and development.

Ambassador for Learning:

  • Assist key stakeholders and colleagues to access Apprenticeship courses, advising and coaching on the availability and commitment required to undertake professional qualifications utilising the Apprenticeship Levy.
  • Represent AEIL at networking and industry events to showcase the company.
  • Responsible for taking the lead on all University, College and School partnership activity to actively promote careers and placements within AEIL, building a talent pipeline of candidates and promoting a strong employer brand.
  • Building and maintaining networks with industry bodies such as the National Skills Academy to ensure up-to-date knowledge.
  • To ensure that Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) applies at all times within the role and to actively promote EDI wherever possible.
  • To work closely with the L&D Manager at all times, ensuring that lines of communication remain open and that important information is relayed in a timely efficient manner.
  • Undertake all activities in line with Company Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures and participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace. 
  • In order for Assystem to work effectively, you may be required to assist with other areas of work and therefore, you should be prepared to undertake other duties appropriate to the post, as delegated by your line manager.

My profile

Training & Qualifications:

  • Minimum CIPD Level 3 Learning and Development Certificate or equivalent
  • Level 3 Award in Education (desirable)

Key competencies 

  • Proven success in designing, developing and delivering successful training programmes
  • Experience in facilitating training and meetings and the ability to adapt and be flexible in your approach to support diversity
  • Communicates confidently, adapting style dependent upon the situation to quickly build rapport and trust
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies
  • Proficiency in using learning management systems and other educational technologies
  • Assists others to accept change, implements change and looks ahead to anticipate change
  • Takes accountability for area of work, seeking to expand knowledge to assist other members of the wider People team
  • Values the input of others expertise in order to learn, develop initiatives, strategies and understand
  • To be active member of the team, demonstrating commitment and teamwork at all times

Skills & Knowledge 

  • Designing blended learning solutions
  • Learning cycle and the how different delivery channels contribute to effective learning
  • How to measure the impact of learning
  • How diversity and inclusion influences the planning and delivery of L&D interventions
  • Excellent IT Skills – adept at PowerPoint, Excel and Word and use of L&D tools 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple conflicting priorities, working on own initiative to prioritise tasks
  • Proactive self-starter with positive attitude  
  • Committed to continual professional development  

Hybrid working 2-3 days in one of our offices (Warrington, Blackburn, Derby or Sunderland), with travel expected across the UK.

Due to the nature of work to be undertaken applicants will be required to meet certain residency criteria in order to attain a minimum level of UK security clearance.
