Job Description

Area Engineering Manager

Warrington 

Permanent / Contract

The Area Engineering Manager will form, lead and direct a multi-disciplinary engineering team to deliver a technical solution for the allocated area that meets the corresponding requirements, associated performance conditions and constraints in the Functional or Requirements Specification for the area, to the agreed time, cost and quality.

The AEM is to operate within the overarching arrangements as defined by the PEM with a focus for this role on the DHAWC (Decommissioning Higher Activity Waste Capability).

The AEM will be responsible for:
Solution development and delivery:

  • Implement the Engineering Elements of the Project Execution Plan for the area.
  • Lead the specification and development of a solution that considers the full lifecycle requirements for the product and satisfies the Areas Requirement Specification/s.
  • Project Delivery Fundamentals.
  • Lead the identification of design, engineering, technical and safety case risks for the area and contribute to remedial action planning and implementation along with input into other disciplines (Construction and Commissioning) as appropriate.
  • Define the hazard management strategy for the area and ensure that all hazards are managed proportionately.

Safe and Legal:

  • Oversee by delegation to the respective Responsible Engineers and other Subject Matter Experts, the Identification, implementation and compliance with applicable safety, environmental and quality, company procedures, policies, legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Carry out Principal Designer Responsibilities as appointed under the CDM Regulations. For PPP contracts the Lot 2 contract holder is the Principal Designer. Carry out the Principal Designer Responsibilities as the CDM Regulations on behalf of the Lot 2 contract Holder.
  • Responsible for the oversight of the application of the EDSPs for the area.

Requirements Management:

  • Define, manage and report technical scope including planned products via a Product Break

 

My profile

Essential Experience:

  • Background engineering experience demonstrating a record of successful delivery including recent positions influencing professional engineers and guiding technical personnel.
  • Minimum requirement:- Significant experience working in an engineering design environment in roles where knowledge of engineering was a key attribute.
  • Recent experience working within a regulated and quality assured system (preferably nuclear) in roles where professional engineering judgement is the key attribute.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Higher Education Qualification in Engineering (or Equivalent) subject Minimum – HNC Preferred – M Eng.
  • Appropriate (Engineering or Scientific) Institution Membership. Minimum – Incorporated Engineer Preferred – Chartered Engineer

Desirable Experience:

  • Knowledge and understanding of governing laws, regulations and standards for nuclear industry (equivalence from other industries will be considered):
    Health & Safety at Work Act and various Regulations including The Construction (design and management) Regulations 2015, Safety of Machinery, CDM, LOLER, Pressure Systems, DSEAR, Ionising Radiation.
  • Identification of Technological readiness levels and development of technology development plans.
  • Requirements Management / System Engineering

Desirable Qualifications:

  • INCOSE ASEP / CSEP

 

Security Clearance:

Due to the nature of work to be undertaken applicants will be required to meet certain residency criteria in order to attain a minimum level of UK security clearance if not already security cleared to a minimum SC level.
