Finding solutions to climate change is the priority of the 21st century and means switching to low-carbon energy. At Assystem, our mission is to accelerate the energy transition worldwide. To achieve this, our 8,000 Switchers combine their historical engineering expertise and project management with digital technologies.

In our 13 countries (Europe, the Middle East, and Asia) operation, we are working on producing and distributing low-carbon electricity by developing nuclear and renewable energies. We also support the modernization and development of energy grids, manage the setup and siting for new transmission and distribution networks, and use hydrogen to decarbonize the transport and industry sectors.

Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Power System Engineer with strong expertise in protection calculation (6/10–500 kV) and insulation coordination (AIS & GIS, above 35 kV). The role focuses on power system studies for SPP, WPP, CCGT plants, transformer systems, and OHTL along with renewable energy and energy storage integration.

You will be involved in advanced simulation, analysis, and technical assessments using PSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, and ETAP. Experience with the Central Asia power grid is a significant advantage and can help streamline approval processes with regional authorities.

· Perform protection coordination and relay setting studies across 6/10–500 kV networks.

· Conduct insulation coordination studies for AIS and GIS substations (above 35 kV).

· Execute EMT simulations in PSCAD and dynamic/steady-state studies in PowerFactory.

· Develop arc flash assessments (including AC and DC) according to IEEE 1584.

· Carry out grounding system design and fault current calculations.

· Execute relay setting and coordination using vendor tools (DIGSI, PCM600, AcSELerator).

· Response to a client’s or regional authorities’ comments on the technical study and partially participate in the negotiations.

My profile

· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems preferred).

· At least 10 years of experience in power system studies, protection engineering, or grid simulation.

· High proficiency in:

  • PSCAD (EMT studies)
  • DIgSILENT PowerFactory (steady-state & dynamic simulations)
  • ETAP or relevant software (protection coordination)

· Strong technical knowledge of:

  • Relay protection settings calculation and coordination for all the types of the general electrical equipment, as in: power line, transformer, shunt reactor, substation arrangement equipment, etc.
  • Insulation coordination (AIS/GIS)
  • Arc flash analysis (IEEE 1584)
  • Fault current studies and grounding design

· Solid understanding of IEC and IEEE standards, and familiarity with ENTSO-E or similar grid codes.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience with Central Asia power systems or regional authority approval processes.

· Python scripting for study automation.

· Professional certifications in protection systems, FACTS, or related fields.
