4 March 2026

As part of its mission to supercharge the future low-carbon workforce through social mobility, Assystem is announcing new literacy and sport campaigns to empower young people into STEM careers.

The key initiatives for 2026 include partnering with  Chapter One, a national literacy charity that provides one-to-one reading support to children from disadvantaged backgrounds at a critical stage in their development, as well as sponsoring  Asfordby Amateurs 12-16 female leadership academy to help develop the next generation of female leaders in sport and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and maths).

As a top three global nuclear company and STEM employer, Assystem is motivated to break down the structural barriers that prevent young and underrepresented people from realising and shaping their access to STEM careers, particularly nuclear.  These new initiatives are critical paths for the company to influence societal change at a local level by supporting the development of young people in the classroom and on the field.

This forms part of Assystem’s Switch to ImpACT commitments, which are geared towards creating a society where young people can thrive for society and the planet, all of which is critical to driving an effective energy transition worldwide.

Through structured reading sessions, the company will make a direct and measurable difference to children’s skills and life chances. With 1 in 5 children facing disadvantage in the UK not owning a single book, Assystem’s Switchers will be able sign up and volunteer remotely for 30 minutes per week, helping the UK close its reading gap by providing children with hands on support at a time they need it the most.

Energised by Sport

With International Women’s Day 2026 on the horizon, Assystem's Energised by Sport campaign recognises how the skills women and girls develop through sport can power future careers in some of the UK’s most exciting low-carbon infrastructure projects. Under this investment, the company has provided the team with new training kits for the 25/26 season and will be sending engineers and project management professionals to talk to the team about the opportunities in STEM subjects. The programme will also give players a grounding in the game’s rules, formations, and positions, as well as transferable skills such as leadership, teamwork, inclusion, and communication, all of which are behaviours that can fuel exciting careers in nuclear and engineering.

Vicky Proctor, UK Chief People Officer, commented: “At Assystem, we believe the energy transition needs a diverse range of ideas to succeed. That’s why it’s vital that the next generation are aware of, and have equal access to, the exciting careers possible in nuclear and STEM. Sport plays a powerful role in building behaviours that are needed to advance the UK’s energy transition ambitions, but this can’t be fully achieved without creating a level playing field where young children can also guarantee the literacy skills they need to progress in the workforce. That’s why our Energised by Sport Campaign and collaboration with the literacy improvement charity, Chapter One, are important steps for securing long-term social value to local communities for the UK’s low-carbon future”.
