Design and construction supervision of a SUME substation

Context and challenges

This client is a leading group in the energy sector. This customer has decided to reinforce a SUME(1) power substation (225 / 20 kva) in Paris with the objective of replacing the existing transformer by two new ones in order to resolve the so-called "classic N-2" constraints. This power substation will contribute to supply the first external ring in Paris (20 kV), notably during the 2024 Olympic Games. The building will be constructed in a DUA (Extremely Dense Urban Area) environment with adjoining residential buildings and 3 main constraints:

  • The safety and protection of people
  • Operating and maintenance constraints
  • Respect of the environment

This client selected Assystem to carry out the studies and supervision of the construction of the building as part of a complete project management services contract, within a consortium of several companies.

Project scope

Intervention in all phases of the project management services contract:

  • Carrying out studies: Drafting studies, Preliminary design, Detailed design, Project-Tender, Assistance for the Contracting of Works, Approval of Execution studies, Management of the Execution of the Works Contract(s), Assistance to Project Owner & Completion Guarantee
  • Management and realisation of the digital mock-up (BIM under REVIT)
  • Contribution to the estimate of the works budget

Additional missions:

  • Geotechnical studies, retaining structures and soil injection
  • Design studies of architectural elements made of earth and wood for local use in the construction of the structure
  • Obtaining building permits

Technical perimeter carried by Assystem: RMN (Roads and Miscellaneous Networks), SW (Structural Work), Structure (metal & wood), High Voltage Current/Low Voltage Current, Boilermaking

The building has 7 levels: 2 basements, the ground floor, 4 floors. It will house a SUME(1) with:

  • 1 transformer and their High Voltage B/ High Voltage A annex premises
  • 1 room for remote controls, control and relay (Low Voltage)
  • 1 social room

It also includes some special infrastructure:

  • Supply and discharge of High Voltage B/ High Voltage A power supply cables
  • Channels, ducts and sleeves for the internal connections and external surroundings of the station
