Assystem, one of the world’s leading nuclear engineering companies, has secured a position on the four-year UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) JET Decommissioning and Repurposing (JDR) multi-supplier Management Support Framework.

The UKAEA Joint European Torus (JET) experiment recently concluded four decades of pioneering operational research at the forefront of global fusion science, achieving numerous world records. The JDR programme now marks the next stage in the experiment’s lifecycle. Scheduled to run until approximately 2040, it will support current and future fusion initiatives both in the UK and internationally.

Through the JDR Management Support Framework, Assystem will provide multidisciplinary expertise into UKAEA’s Tier 1 management organisation, enabling leadership and delivery of the associated programme of works.

Assystem’s initial support will include provision of site-based technical leadership to deliver safe, compliant, and efficient engineering solutions for nuclear decommissioning through pre‑construction and construction phases, as well as digital expertise to lead the design and governance of document and information management solutions.

With 20 years’ experience on global fusion programmes such as ITER, Assystem has cultivated a reputation as an established global partner to the fusion energy industry.  The company has taken a strategic role in shaping the UK and international fusion ecosystem, bridging the gap between research and industrialisation. Its expertise in tritium engineering, nuclear safety, remote handling and systems integration aligns directly with the UK’s technical priorities.

Assystem also established the Fusion Industry Taskforce (FIT) in 2021, creating a structured dialogue between government, industry and the supply chain.
