We are a collective committed to making the energy switch. Sharing our knowledge, expertise and values allows us to innovate and think differently about the energy transition.

Here is how you can be a part of that switch:

Job Description

As a Principal Safety & Risk Consultant  within Assystem’s Safety & Risk business, you will lead the development and assurance of nuclear safety across complex defence infrastructure programmes. Acting as a technical authority and Intelligent Customer, you will provide oversight, challenge and direction to ensure safety cases are robust, proportionate and aligned with regulatory expectations.

You will operate across the full project lifecycle—supporting design, construction and commissioning—ensuring that safety strategies, hazard analyses and supporting evidence are clear, coherent and defensible. Working with multidisciplinary teams, you will influence key decisions, provide authoritative guidance on regulatory frameworks, and help ensure that risks are reduced so far as reasonably practicable.

Alongside delivery, you will contribute to capability development by mentoring others and supporting continuous improvement in safety processes and practices.

My profile

You will have strong experience in Safety Case development and assurance within nuclear, defence or other high-hazard environments, and be comfortable operating at Senior or Principal level. A solid understanding of hazard analysis, safety justification and UK regulatory frameworks (e.g. ONR, DNSR) is essential.

You will be confident engaging stakeholders, challenging assumptions and guiding teams in complex, regulated environments. Experience in an assurance or Intelligent Customer role is advantageous. A relevant science or engineering degree is required, with professional registration desirable.
