Job Description

Objective:

As Design Lead (Primary), the person shall be capable of reviewing & executing Primary Engineering Activities for AIS / GIS Substation Projects covering multiple geographical domains. He must have good knowledge in Layout Engineering in Substation Projects. He shall facilitate the modellers in development of BIM 3D Model for Substations. In addition, she / he has to coordinate with other departments including Inter-departmental checks covering, Electrical, Civil/ Structural, MEP and others. The Design Lead (Primary) shall be required to provide support for the engineering activities covering the full cycle of works from pre-bid engineering to support during commissioning and warranty periods and to extend support to site team. She / He shall lead a team of Design Engineers and Draughtspersons to manage the Engineering activities within budget, deliver on time and maintaining a high quality of engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

• Timely Delivery of Engineering Drawings & Documents
• Ensure deliveries are aligned to Project Schedule
• Seek and obtain spatial requirements and details of cut-outs and openings from the Design Lead (Secondary) and incorporate into relevant Drawings
• Review primary drawings by Design Engineers & Draughtspersons & checking of design & sizing calculations of primary engineering electrical equipment and obtaining approvals from the client
• Review of Vendor deliverables pertaining to Primary Engineering
• Capable of Multitasking and deliver multiple things on time
• Estimate and Plan man-hour requirements • Review BOQ and submit to contracts team and providing technical clarifications
• Coordinate with multiple disciplines for ensuring inter-departmental checks
• Provide support & clarifications to the Site Execution team
• Check pre-award evaluation of vendors (w.r.t. technical specifications requirement of the client) and forward the validation document to Supply Chain Management
• Inspect equipment from the finalized vendor after submission of validation document of the vendor
• Clarify issues w.r.t. the design & requirements of the client to the Site Execution Team
• Collect inputs for project details (plot details, feeder arrangements etc.) from client & Project Engineering Manager Sensitivity: LNT Construction Internal Use
• Coordinating with Operations team and informing Design specifications for obtaining approval
• Collect inputs for project details (General Arrangement Drawings) from Vendors
• Check deliverables such as Equipment layouts, Cable Routing Layout, Cable Tray Layout, Earthing Layout, lighting Layout, Lightning Protection Layout
• Provide support to secondary team for reviewing Vendor drawings
• Submit requirement of man-hours for undertaking & reviewing of design & drawings of the project

Technical Expertise: 

The Design Lead (Primary) is required to have an overall knowledge of equipment layouts and necessary calculations.

The Design Lead (Primary) should also have detailed knowledge of Substation equipment and their Layouts. Furthermore, she / he should have the understanding of primary engineering activities covering SLD Preparation, Layout Engineering, Earthing, Cable Routing, Lighting, Lightning Protection, Cable Tray Routing etc. He should be capable of performing design & sizing calculations of Busbar, UPS, DG, LT Transformer, Earthing Conductor, calculations (Short circuit force, Sag tension, CCC etc.).

The Design Lead (Primary) is required to have knowledge on National and International Codes and Standards. The Design Lead (Primary) is required to understand and interpret the contractual technical requirements and facilitate the Project Teams as and when required.

In addition, the Design Lead (Primary) should also have an overall understanding of the interdisciplinary (Civil & Structural, Mechanical and Instrumentation) design aspects of electrical equipment.

My profile

Minimum Qualification : B.E. / B. Tech. in Electrical / Electrical & Electronics Engineering
Experience : 8-12 years (Must have experience in design aspects of Primary Engineering / Secondary Engineering in Substations / Power Distribution Projects)

Experience in design engineering for AIS/GIS Substation upto 400 KV is preferred
