Project presentation

GenF, an innovative start-up and subsidiary of the Thales Group, aims to transform energy production by designing an inertial confinement fusion reactor. The process relies on the use of ultra-powerful, high-energy lasers capable of rapidly and uniformly compressing a capsule containing a mixture of deuterium and tritium, triggering fusion.

Conducted in collaboration with the CEA and the CNRS, this project represents a major technological advance for clean and sustainable energy. In this context, GenF has commissioned Assystem to administer the Dassault Systemes (3Dx) digital platform, explore tools according to business needs, deploy systems engineering methods and introduce nuclear safety into the project.

Project Scope

  • Systems engineering methods
  • Definition and deployment of functional analysis using MagicGrid on the CatiaMagic tool
  • Definition of systems engineering methods and processes to be implemented at the start of a project
  • PLM deployment of the 3D Experience
  • Proposal for defining the integration strategy and configuration of the platform
  • Administration of the platform to anticipate reactor design studies (management and training)
  • Exploration of applications to meet business needs through the development of use cases
  • Support in nuclear safety
  • Expertise provided to managers to anticipate future procedures with nuclear safety authorities
  • Production of memos and training presentations to raise awareness of nuclear safety

Client benefits

  • Assystem's expertise in MBSE, enabling product structuring from the outset
  • Time savings in collaboration, data entry and simulation sharing thanks to the implementation of a Virtual Twin
  • Strengthening of customer skills thanks to feedback from Assystem’s teams in the nuclear field
  • Support and advice on development strategies (staffing, licensing, prioritisation of technical issues) for the start-up
