Job Description

📍 Location: Thurso (Home-based with occasional site visits to Dounreay)
🔐 Security Clearance Required: SC & Sole UK National

As Assystem Defence continues to grow, we’re on the lookout for a dynamic and self-motivated Senior Project Planner 📅 to support one of our key Defence clients.

You’ll be embedded within the client’s PMO team, acting as the go-to expert for all things planning. This is a home-based role 🏡 with occasional travel 🚗 to the client site at Dounreay.

🚀 Your Mission:

🛠️ Project Schedule Management – Develop, monitor, and control schedules to ensure timely milestone and deliverable completion, in collaboration with Project Managers.
📋 Project Planning Leadership – Lead schedule development both internally and externally with clients.
🔄 Work Package Coordination – Track progress, allocate resources, and manage subcontractor activities.
Subcontractor Programme Approval – Review for quality and consistency with project timelines.
🤝 Stakeholder Communication – Provide regular updates on progress, risks, changes, and opportunities.

🎓 Candidate Profile (Skills & Experience):

🔧 Planning Expertise – Skilled in building and maintaining high-quality schedules
👥 Collaborative Communicator – Experienced in working with Project Leads and stakeholders
🧩 P6 Proficiency – Confident using Primavera P6 (or similar tools) to sequence and allocate resources
⚛️ Industry Background – Experience in the Nuclear or Defence sectors is a big plus
💻 Tech-Savvy – Especially in MS Office (Excel & MS Project)
🔍 Detail-Oriented – Analytical, accurate, and self-driven
🗣️ Clear Communicator – Capable of distilling complex data into concise updates
📊 Programme Assessor – Able to validate subcontractor inputs for accuracy

📚 Qualifications:

🎓 Degree (preferred) or equivalent experience
📘 Primavera P6 training (desirable)
📑 Project Management certification (e.g. APM) is a bonus

Additional information

Limited Company Contractor role (Outside IR35)

📍 Location: Scotland ideally
🏡 Working Model: Home working with occasional visits to Client Site at Dounreay
