Job Description

The Planner will play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of a major wastewater infrastructure project by developing, monitoring, and maintaining robust project programmes. Working closely with the project management and engineering teams, the Planner will ensure that planning processes, progress measurement, and reporting are accurate and aligned with project objectives, timelines, and contractual requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and update detailed project programmes using [Primavera P6 / MS Project or relevant software].

  • Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to build realistic and achievable schedules covering design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover phases.

  • Monitor project progress, identify critical paths, risks, and opportunities, and provide regular schedule updates and forecasts.

  • Analyse schedule performance and prepare reports, dashboards, and recovery plans where required.

  • Support the integration of subcontractor programmes into the master schedule, ensuring alignment with overall project timelines.

  • Lead or contribute to planning workshops, look-ahead meetings, and progress review sessions.

  • Ensure planning deliverables meet contractual and client requirements, including earned value and key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Assist in the preparation of tender and baseline programmes, resource histograms, and what-if scenarios to support decision making.

  • Ensure compliance with company planning standards, governance, and procedures.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Proven experience as a Planner on major infrastructure or wastewater projects.

  • Proficiency in planning software (e.g. Primavera P6, MS Project).

  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, and interdependencies.

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.

  • Experience in preparing reports and working with multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.

  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. APM, CIOB).

  • Knowledge of NEC contract planning requirements.

  • Experience working within a regulated utilities environment.
