Job Description

The Role

Working alongside contractors and multidisciplinary project teams, you’ll provide technical assurance across a broad range of environmental water management activities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as Assystem’s embedded Environmental Water Assurance Lead within the Sizewell C Environmental Services team.
  • Reviewing and challenging technical reports, environmental assessments and water management arrangements prepared by contractors and consultants.
  • Providing technical assurance on surface water management, water quality, discharges, flood risk, water resources and environmental compliance.
  • Assessing the suitability of proposed water management measures and identifying risks, gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Reviewing monitoring strategies, environmental data and specialist technical reports to ensure they provide the information required to support project decision making.
  • Supporting the development and continual improvement of water management arrangements throughout the construction phase.
  • Working closely with environmental specialists, engineers, project managers and contractors to resolve technical issues and deliver practical solutions.
  • Representing the project in technical meetings, supporting discussions with regulators and other stakeholders by presenting and explaining technical information prepared by project teams.
  • Supporting environmental permitting and compliance activities through the review of technical documentation and assurance of supporting evidence.
  • Undertaking risk-based assurance activities and providing clear technical advice to support safe and environmentally responsible project delivery.

Travel: Occasional travel to the Sizewell C site in Suffolk (typically up to two days per week when required)

About You

We’re looking for an experienced environmental professional with a broad understanding of water management within complex infrastructure or construction projects.

You may currently be working as an:

  • Environmental Consultant
  • Environmental Advisor
  • Environmental Engineer
  • Water Management Specialist
  • Environmental Regulator

Most importantly, you’ll enjoy reviewing complex technical information, asking the right questions and working collaboratively to solve problems.

You’ll ideally have:

  • A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or another relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Experience of water management within major infrastructure, construction, environmental consultancy or regulatory environments.
  • A broad understanding of surface water management, water quality, environmental permitting, flood risk and environmental compliance.
  • Experience reviewing technical reports and providing constructive technical challenge.
  • The confidence to engage with multidisciplinary teams and communicate complex technical issues clearly to a range of stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities within a dynamic project environment.

Professional membership or chartership is desirable but not essential. Assystem actively supports employees working towards professional accreditation and continuing professional development.
