The UK government has made a pledge to reach carbon neutrality by 2050 and, as such, is pushing ahead with significant investment in nuclear and renewable energies.
Assystem, as a leading provider of project management, design & construction supervision services within the nuclear industry, has aligned its own strategy to support this switch to low-carbon energy, whilst also recognising transport and infrastructure systems to be a major factor in influencing the outcome of government policy.
By acquiring Schofield Lothian in 2021, Assystem reaffirmed their commitment to the UK’s energy transition in combining strengths with a long-established provider of consultancy services to the transport and infrastructure sectors, through the delivery of sustainable performance improvements within four practice areas: Consents & Engagement; Commercial Management; Project Management; and Environment & Sustainability.
Based on these solid foundations, our Consents team continues to build on its existing capability and has ambitious plans to develop its reach within both the transport & infrastructure sectors and through the additional opportunities offered via the Assystem network within the nuclear sector.
Our objectives will ultimately be defined by our ability to attract and retain those talented individuals that share our vision and wish to join us in shaping the future.

Assystem Engagement Practice: Stakeholder Engagement Consultant
We work on a range of different projects that make a difference to how you, I and everyone you know – live, work and experience everyday life.
From the roads and rails we travel on, to the energy that powers our kettles, heating, and tech, even the defence capabilities that keep us safe, we are involved in the planning, development and delivery of the infrastructure that most people take for granted.
But you are not ‘most people’. You understand that new development wherever or whatever it might be requires clear, accurate and timely communication.
You recognise that effective communication is two-way process, so you are a good listener.
You are empathetic, confident and self-assured, comfortable in leading difficult conversations with different types of stakeholders. Inevitably, while construction disruption can sometimes be minimised by consulting with stakeholders, not all frustrations can be eliminated.
Your calm and diplomatic approach to stakeholder management, along with your problem-solving skills, will be called upon as you balance the realities of construction with the needs of your stakeholders.
You can see the big picture and are able to articulate the benefits of your project to stakeholders, be they residents, community groups, project teams, 3rd parties or businesses.
What can you expect if you join us?
Depending on your skill set and experience, you might find yourself on assignments where you are negotiating on behalf of developers, writing community or social value strategies, managing public consultations, running community events, creating engaging content for publicity materials, interfacing between residents and construction teams or working on special cases with individual stakeholder who have or will be significantly impacted by construction works.
As a consultant you will be deployed on an assignment and project that fits your skill set and experience. Assignment durations vary in length but generally run for a minimum of 12 months. At Assystem consultants have the opportunity to work across different sectors and clients. We encourage our consultants to expand their skill sets, take training opportunities and support individuals to gain experience in the different communications specialisms within our practice.
We are committed to equal treatment of candidates and promote, as well as foster all forms of diversity within our company. We believe that bringing together people with different backgrounds and perspectives is essential for creating innovative and impactful solutions. Skills, talent, and our people’s ability to dare are the only things that matter !. Bring your unique contributions and help us shape the future.
Are you a prospective or recent graduate?
Assystem offers you the opportunity to join our Switch to Grow UK Graduate Scheme, where you’ll gain hands on experience in engineering, digital services, and project management by working on some of the world’s most critical energy projects.
Be part of the challenge of the century; accelerating the switch to low carbon energy!
