As part of this mission, Assystem Engineering Operation Services (AEOS) supports KNPP Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plants in the development, construction, and commissioning of Kazakhstan’s first nuclear power plant at the Ulken site (Almaty region).


Job Description

The Project Controls Specialist/Engineer will support project planning, scheduling, cost control, and performance reporting activities for the Ulken NPP Project. Reporting to the Project Controls Manager, this role contributes to maintaining accurate project data, tracking progress, and ensuring the proper use of project control tools and procedures. The position is technical and analytical, with no team management responsibilities.

 

Planning & Scheduling

  • Assist in developing and updating project schedules using Primavera P6 and MS Project.
  • Track schedule progress, identify variances, and support preparation of schedule reports.
  • Maintain project milestones, work breakdown structures (WBS), and activity logic.

Cost Control & Reporting

  • Support preparation and monitoring of project cost baselines, commitments, and forecasts.
  • Assist in cost variance analysis and periodic cost reporting.
  • Update cost breakdown structures (CBS) and assist with Earned Value calculations.

Risk & Change Management

  • Support the risk identification and tracking process.
  • Assist in maintaining risk registers and preparing risk analysis inputs.
  • Help document change requests and track approved changes.

Data Analytics & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate project data in project control systems and digital tools.
  • Prepare dashboards and KPI reports using MS Excel and Power BI.
  • Compile weekly and monthly reports for internal AEOS PMO and KNPP.

Coordination & Support

  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, construction, and PMO teams to collect data.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with established procedures and project control standards.
  • Support capacity-building and knowledge-transfer activities with local counterparts.

My profile

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, project management, or a related technical field.

Experience

  • 8–15 years of experience in project controls, scheduling, or cost control.
  • Experience on large infrastructure, energy, or industrial projects (nuclear experience is an asset but not required).
  • Hands-on use of Primavera P6 or MS Project is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of project controls fundamentals (WBS, CBS, Earned Value, risk basics).
  • Proficiency with MS Excel (pivot tables preferred), PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Experience with Power BI, Unifier, or similar tools is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Good communication and time-management skills.
  • Fluency in English and Russian (written and spoken).
