Job Description

This role involves being a Lead Engineer on one or more Workstreams in the  Plant Cyber Integration & Obsolescence Project portfolio. Although the individual projects within the portfolio are being delivered to the client standards, it should be noted that the systems themselves are formed from COTS IT equipment, and so a good understanding of this technology will also be required for the role(s).

The individual will be responsible for all aspects of delivery across numerous projects from concept to handover.  They will functionally report to the SL Senior Engineer for the projects (this could be different people from project to project).

The role will require the individual to deliver the project deliverables in line with client tailored processes. Responsible for checking work as well as liaising and co-ordinating work activities.

This role will require strong stakeholder engagement with security case managers, system engineers, OTG, commissioning staff etc throughout the lifecycle but especially during the stakeholder requirements definition process and requirements analysis process. 

As a key role within the Integrated Project Team (IPT) the individual will work closely with other disciplines, including Project Management, Quality, Cost Controls, Team Members in other Workstreams and Projects, Systems Engineers, Capability (especially The Security in Design CoE) and OTG.

The role also covers the management and execution of supply chain delivery of the systems including checking, and reviewing deliverables from internal and external sources, verification and validation, quality, time, and cost management.

The individual will functionally manage any internal resources working within Workstreams, ensuring the deliverables are delivered to quality, time, and cost.

The individual will also manage any reporting requirements including ensuring any technical, safety and engineering risks are identified and escalated to the SL Senior Engineer.

Examples of Typical projects are:

  • Provision of a Patching System to provide software patches to the Cyber Security suite of systems:
  • Provision of a Network Time Protocol (NTP) system to deliver accurate time to the Cyber Security suite of systems and facilities;
  • Delivery of a Security Information & Event Management (SIEM) system for monitoring Cyber Security information.
  • Network Hardening Project
  • Protective Monitoring Project

My profile

  • Degree Qualified in appropriate discipline
  • Professional registration (minimum IEng Level) with a relevant institute (e.g. IET)
  • At least 5 years working in roles where knowledge of IT Systems / PES design lifecycle delivery was a key attribute.
  • At least 3 years experience of working within a heavily regulated and quality assured system (preferably nuclear) in roles where professional engineering judgement is the key attribute.
  • Acceptance of technical responsibility for the design of complex, fit-for-purpose engineering systems ;
  • Evidence of producing deliverables to time, cost and quality requirements
  • Engineering team leadership experience.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with the supply chain to deliver successful projects and work packages.
  • Broad understanding of other engineering disciplines and their role within engineering delivery.
  • Understanding of the importance of nuclear safety and security
  • Good commercial awareness.
  • Have the ability to work as part of an integrated delivery team, and individually, working within sometimes restrictive time constraints.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and be able to interact with people at all levels.
  • Can demonstrate ability of undertaking site visits

Security clearance:

Due to the nature of work to be undertaken applicants will be required to meet certain residency criteria in order to attain a minimum level of UK security clearance if not already security cleared to a minimum SC level.

Will require to be on site majority of time at Hinton House or Sellafield Site
