Context and challenges

This client is a Saudi organisation that was established as per a Royal Decree in 1975. Its main objective is the development of Jubail and Yanbu Industrial Cities.

Jubail 2 is considered by many to be the world's largest civil engineering project. It consists of an 83 km2 industrial development started in 2005 in the city of Jubail, 490 km northeast of Riyadh. The current population of Jubail (1 & 2) is around 380,000.

In order to meet the city growth, this client has launched a major construction project in Jubail 2 industrial area to cover the anticipated required power for residential, commercial and industrial facilities.

This client has appointed Assystem to deliver design services and technical support for all power facilities of the site.

Project scope

  • Review of the Master Plans studies for the phased development of Jubail 2
  • Review of the Construction Contracts under execution in Jubail 2
  • Data gathering and identification of critical activities
  • Preparation of Scope Book, Project Technical Scope and Design Basis Report
  • Coordination with Saudi Telecom Company STC and Saudi Electricity Company SEC and obtaining approvals
  • Preparation of conceptual and detail designs drawings and studies for:
    • Substations
    • Switching stations and power system studies
    • Underground cables and overhead power lines
    • Telecommunication network and associated facilities
  • Perform special engineering studies
  • Contracts packaging and cost estimation
  • Support during the design and bidding stages
  • Support during construction of substations and other site-specific services
  • 380kV/1150kV/34.5kV/13.8kV substations
