EPR
Cutting-edge expertise at the Olkiluoto 3 EPR™ site
Your challenge :
The Areva-Siemens consortium is building the first third-generation European Pressurized Reactor (EPRTM) in Olkiluoto, Finland under a turnkey contract with Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO). The EPRTM is the most advanced pressurized water reactor in the market. It offers enhanced competitiveness and safety, along with optimised fuel management, less radioactive waste and a longer lifetime (60 years rather than 40). It is designed to withstand external hazards, such as aircraft crashes, as well as internal events, with a corium spreading area to contain molten core in the event of a meltdown. More reliable and cost-effective than previous reactors, this first-off unit is a major, complex undertaking. Construction began in 2003 and the reactor is expected to be commissioned in late 2012.
Our added value :
Areva asked Assystem, which has a long-established presence in the nuclear power industry, to handle the engineering, construction, quality inspection and commissioning of the reactor, which includes tests and the actual start-up. Today, we have a team of 60 people based at the Olkiluoto site. We bring to the table extensive upstream familiarity with Areva’s projects and work methods, and the ability to deploy highly experienced engineers, technical specialists and supervisors who have helped to commission France's nuclear power plants.
